UPSC CDS I Recruitment 2023: UPSC Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2023 [Including SSC Women (Non-technical) Course] form out. Now candidates can fill out the form from 21 December 2022 to 10 January 2023.

The Selection of the candidate will be based on the-

Verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents will be taken up only after the candidate has qualified for interview/Personality Test.

1. Indian Military Academy, Dehradun- 156th (DE) Course commencing in January, 2024 [including 13 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Army Wing) holders]- 100 vacancies.

2. Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala—Course commencing in January, 2024 Executive Branch (General Service)/Hydro [including 06 vacancies for NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Naval Wing through NCC Special Entry) holders]- 22 vacancies.

3. Air Force Academy, Hyderabad—(Pre-Flying) Training Course commencing in January, 2024 i.e. No. 215 F(P) Course. [including 03 vacancies are reserved for NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Air Wing) holders through NCC Spl. Entry]- 32 vacancies.

4. Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai (Madras)- 119th SSC (Men) (NT) (UPSC) Course commencing in April, 2024- 170 vacancies.

5. Officers Training Academy, Chennai (Madras)- 33rd SSC Women (NT) (UPSC) Course commencing in April, 2024- 17 vacancies.

Scheme of Examination Details for UPSC CDS I Recruitment 2023

1. The Competitive examination comprises:

(a) Written examination as shown in para 2 below.

(b) Interview for intelligence and personality test (vide Part ‘B’ of this Appendix) of such candidates as may be called for interview at one of the Services Selection Centres.

2. The subjects of the written examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject will be as follows:

(a) For Admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy-

Subject Name with Code, Exam Duration (2 Hours) and Maximum Marks (100)

1. English- Code 11

2. General Knowledge- Code 12

3. Elementary Mathematics- Code-13

(b) For Admission to Officers’ Training Academy

Exam Duration (2 Hours) and Maximum Marks (100)

1. English- Code 11

2. General Knowledge- Code 12

3. The papers in all the subjects will consist of objective type questions only. The question papers (Test Booklets) of General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English.

4. The Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination. Etc.

Syllabus for UPSC CDS I Recruitment 2023

English (Code No. 01)

The question paper will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.

General Knowledge (Code No. 02)

General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The
paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study.

Elementary Mathematics (Code No. 03)

Arithmetic

Number System—Natural numbers, Integers, Rational and Real numbers. Fundamental operations, addition, substraction, multiplication, division, Square roots, Decimal fractions. Unitary method, time and distance, time and work, percentages, applications to simple and compound interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, variation.

Elementary Number Theory- Division algorithm. Prime and composite numbers. Tests of divisibility by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 11. Multiples and factors. Factorization.

Theorem. H.C.F. and L.C.M. Euclidean algorithm. Logarithms to base 10, laws of logarithms, use of logarithmic tables.

Algebra

Basic Operations, simple factors, Remainder Theorem, H.C.F., L.C.M., Theory of polynomials, solutions of quadratic equations, relation between its roots and coefficients (Only real roots to be considered). Simultaneous linear equations in two unknown s—analytical and graphical solutions. Simultaneous linear inequations in two variables and their solutions.

Practical problems leading to two simultaneous linear equations or inequations in two variables or quadratic equations in one variable & their solutions. Set language and set notation, Rational expressions and conditional identities, Laws of indices.

Trigonometry

Sine ×, cosine ×, Tangent × when 0° < × < 90° Values of sin ×, cos × and tan ×, for ×= 0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° Simple trigonometric identities. Use of trigonometric tables. Simple cases of heights and distances.

Geometry

Lines and angles, Plane and plane figures, Theorems on (i) Properties of angles at a point, (ii) Parallel lines, (iii) Sides and angles of a triangle, (iv) Congruency of triangles, (v) Similar triangles, (vi) Concurrence of medians and altitudes, (vii) 22 Properties of angles, sides and diagonals of a parallelogram, rectangle and square, (viii) Circles and its properties including tangents and normals, (ix) Loci.

Mensuration

Areas of squares, rectangles, parallelograms, triangle and circle. Areas of figures which can be split up into these figures (Field Book), Surface area and volume of cuboids, lateral surface and volume of right circular cones and cylinders, surface
area and volume of spheres.

Statistics

Collection and tabulation of statistical data, Graphical representation frequency polygons, histograms, bar charts, pie charts etc. Measures of central tendency.

Intelligence and Personality Test for UPSC CDS I Recruitment 2023:

The SSB procedure consists of two stage Selection process – stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for stage II.

How to Apply for UPSC CDS I Recruitment 2023

Candidates are required to apply online by using the website http://upsconline.nic.in.

It is essential for the applicant to register himself/herself first at One Time Registration (OTR) platform, available on the Commission’s website, and then proceed for filling up the online application for the examination. OTR has to be registered only once in life time. This can be done anytime throughout the year. If the candidate is already registered, he/she can proceed straightway for filling up the online application for the examination.

The last date for submission of applications is 10 January, 2023.
